The day-ahead exchange price goes negative when generation (typically solar or wind) exceeds demand, and it becomes cheaper for producers to pay someone to take the power than to shut the plant down. This is not a data error — it is a real market phenomenon, and it is becoming more common as solar capacity grows.
Not directly. The exchange (day-ahead) price shown here is a wholesale reference price, not the retail tariff on your bill. Most Hungarian households pay a flat (non-hourly) tariff set by their supplier, which does not change just because the exchange price is negative or very high right now. This site gives context on the market situation — it is not a bill calculator.
It means actual grid load came in lower than forecast — on its own this does NOT prove people deliberately cut back consumption. A forecast error (weather, economic activity estimated inaccurately) can produce the exact same picture. "Under plan" describes the situation, it is not a causal explanation.
The Paks Nuclear Power Plant uses Danube water for cooling: it draws water from the river and returns it (at a regulated temperature). That is why this site tracks block output and Danube water level/temperature at Paks together — the two are physically linked, even though the plant's operation alone does not determine the river's water level (that is driven mainly by rainfall in the upstream catchment and how upstream dams are managed).
The nSv/h (nanosievert per hour) value on the map is a DOSE RATE, not a total dose — like speed, not distance travelled. Natural background radiation in Hungary typically sits around 50–180 nSv/h, and the live Paks station readings fall within that range. The data comes from HAEA (Hungarian Atomic Energy Authority)'s public environmental radiation monitoring system — this is the regulator's own official measurement, not our estimate.
Because that particular source did not respond, and we say so honestly instead of showing an invented or stale number. This is deliberate behaviour, not a bug — see the About page.
Every 15 minutes, automatically. A few sources (e.g. the EUR/HUF exchange rate) only publish a new value once a day — in those cases the site shows the most recent available value rather than a fabricated number that "updates" every 15 minutes regardless.
